You know when you’re reading a book and you can see why other people would like it, but it just isn’t clicking for you? That was the case with Game Point for me.
This is a romance that makes you feel like you’re playing a very, very long tennis match—lots of volleys, plenty of footwork, and you’re not quite sure when the final point is coming. It’s a slow burn romance in the truest sense of the term. Like, “grab a snack, stretch your hamstrings, and settle in because these two are going to take their sweet time” slow burn.
Now, don’t get me wrong—I enjoyed the tension. The longing glances, the witty banter, the “will they, won’t they” that just keeps building. (Brat anyone) But at times, the story felt like I was stuck in a tennis rally where both players keep hitting the same shot back and forth. The internal monologues and repeated emotional beats got, well a little… repetitive. (By chapter 18 I wanted to shake them both and yell, “Just kiss already!”)
That said, the writing is engaging, the chemistry is undeniable once it finally ignites, and Jones nails the sports-meets-romance vibe. When the payoff comes, it’s satisfying, even if I had to wade through what felt like extra sets to get there.
I liked how Jones touched on how female athletes are perceived by the media compared to male athletes and the different standards they are held to.

Final Thoughts: If you love a drawn-out romantic buildup, lots of back-and-forth tension, and don’t mind a bit of déjà vu in the prose, this one will serve you well. For me, it was a fun read, but I needed fewer reruns of the same emotional plays.
