2022 Recap and 2023 Goals

This past year has been one of the best years of reading with 108 books read, this year is only just behind 2020 at 113. This blog has encouraged me to keep reading, often and broadly which I am so grateful for. I hope to continue this trend in 2023 but my goal is to be more intentional with what books I am reading. I want to read longer books, write more reviews and in a wider variety of genres.

In 2022, I read 108 books out of that only 2 were longer than 500+ pages.😳 I want to get over my big book fear this year and start intentionally focusing on reading longer books. This means I won't have the chance to read as many books so in 2023 I will be lowering my reading goal to 75 books and I want to have at least 16% of my books be over 500 pages. That means I will need to read 12 long books to keep that percentage. Something I think will be doable with the types of books I am planning on reading.

I had a good split between fiction and nonfiction with 74% and 26% respectively, so I would like to continue that ratio for the coming year. One thing I would like to change is to not have my romance category quite so high, I still love the genre but think I was focused on the quantity and not as much on quality as I would like, 51 books of the 108 were considered a romance, that is just a bit too high at 47% of all books read were in the same category. Instead of reading romance, this is where the longer books will come into play with classics. I want to get more into literature and poetry this year, I dabbled some this year and read a collective 10 books from those two categories and really enjoyed myself. So I am hoping to continue to enjoy myself by reading even more from those two categories, choosing books from the Hardcore Literature Book Club and picking a poetry collection every other month for a total of 6 in 2023.

Overall, I really enjoyed my reading experience in 2022 and feel like this is just what I needed to fall in love with reading all over again. I get a deeper experience when I am able to write out my thoughts and truly sit with the book to see what I thought about it instead of just starting a new one right away. 2022 you have been great and I cant wait to see what 2023 brings!
